Buddy Baker has gone from “super” man to family man – but is he strong enough to hold his family together when Maxine, his young daughter, starts to manifest her own dangerous powers?

BONUS REVIEW by JOHN SCHAEFER

For more years than I care to count, DC has been unsure what to do with the former star of Strange Adventures. He had been a member of the JLA (both with and without powers), a member of Justice League Europe, guest starred with Wonder Woman in the amazon's first series, got married, had kids, fought alongside the Green Cigarette, been a member of the Forgotten Heroes, played pivital roles in most of DC Crises throughout the past 20 years, got lost in space with Starfire and Adam Strange and survived meeting his real-life writer. Whew! Where do you go from there? Writer Jeff Lemire has blended all of Buddy Baker's adventures and lost something in the mix. Buddy (with powers) still has his family and has returned to his lame blue outfit. A heart-feeled story about a father's grief is cut short by a bizarre dream sequence that screams Vertigo involving hidden warnings, blood and guts (literally) and dead animals. Travel Foreman's pencils a more appropriate for a Vertigo title than in a mainstream DC title. Hopefully, Lemire can streamline the ideas and get us an Animal Man of his own.
