Avengers Assemble #7 (2012)

Avengers Assemble #7 (2012)

$5.00
VERY FINE/NEAR MINT
Written by Brian Michael Bendis
Art and Cover by Mark Bagley
Thanos Rules!
Date available: 9/12/2012
BONUS REVIEW by Gary Owens

Need a Avengers fix with the 80's tacky fun? Look no further, since omnipresent Bendis and penciller Bagley bring you Avengers in Space Part something. What works great here are the shining odd characters: Bug, from Micronauts (look closely!); Black Widow, with gabs of dialogue; Groot (who?); and especially Starlord, which Byrne did in the 1980's one-shot to fantastic effect, and who gets the most press (ah, freshness!). The Avengers are chased down by the Badoons while chasing down Thanos (the guy can always find a cosmic cube or the infinity gems somehow. Think what would happen if he played the Lotto!) All retro, in a good way. Overall the comic is a long battle in space, with some verisimilitude (freshness again!), with a page or 3 of no-words though the lack of spacesuits and its other benefits besides supplying air isn't addressed (who cares?), and the inking/coloring was really dark/off in spots (well, space IS dark/off), but, come on, it is the 80's, with Starlord, and Thanos, and who woulda thunk it? Take the ride, and have fun!

I give it 7 out of 10 Grahams
