'MAMMON' ALL HAIL GOD MONEY! From JONATHAN HICKMAN (EAST OF WEST, Secret Wars, Avengers) and TOMM COKER (UNDYING LOVE) comes a new crypto-noir series about the power of dirty, filthy money… and exactly what kind of people you can buy with it. THE BLACK MONDAY MURDERS is classic occultism where the various schools of magic are actually clandestine banking cartels who control all of society: a secret world where vampire Russian oligarchs, Black popes, enchanted American aristocrats, and hitmen from the International Monetary Fund work together to keep ALL OF US in our proper place.

BONUS REVIEW by Kevin Healy

I liked this book, but I think that's more for the potential than the execution. Jonathan Hickman writes dense material, and in his indy work, loves to slather it with geographic charts and text. Sometimes it works wonderfully. Sometimes, not so much. Both take turns in this book. When there's not art provided by the devil's spyrograph, Tom Coker draws bleak, black panels of dread. One read told me it was worth the time. A second read announced it will almost certainly be better when we have all the pieces of the puzzle (hey, the puzzle looks like a graphic novel!). Be prepared to have the most intriguing parts of this issue pop and fade, waiting to be addressed in the future.

I give it 7 out of 10 Grahams
