The Goon Once Upon A Hard Time #1 (2015)

The Goon Once Upon A Hard Time #1 (2015)

$4.50
VERY FINE/NEAR MINT
(W/A/CA) Eric Powell
After the tragic events of Occasion of Revenge, the witch coven believes that control of the unnamed town will soon be in their grasp and the Goon's tragic soul will contribute to the curse that increases their power. But has their plot destroyed the Goon or created a monster too savage for them to withstand? Once upon a Hard Time is a climactic miniseries that has major consequences for the Goon and his supporting cast. If you're a Goon fan, you can't miss this. 'Powell's story is sweet when it needs to be, warm and touching when it wants to be, and brutal and gruesome when it has to be.'-Bloody Disgusting

BONUS REVIEW by Kevin Healy

Hard boiled and bloody bleak. The Goon is at his lowest point ever, and if you're a reader, you have an idea of how low that would have to be. As a title, the Goon is known more for hilarious, gratuitous violence. It's always been more, much more, than that. Suffice it to say that Eric Powell hits sour, somber notes here with the Goon, Frankie, Spider, h*ll, just about everyone in the book. Following the tragedy of 'Occasion of Revenge', it remains a mystery if the Goon will ever be able to work his way out of the hole he's in, and whether or not they'll be anything left of him if he does. There are specific panels used to highlight moments with their attention to detail and shading. Try getting through pages 11-12 without feeling the weight of the world on someone's shoulders. I bet you can't. I sure as h*ll didn't. As a plus for new readers, the recent arcs have been set up friendly enough to be used as jumping on points. Any questions? Just ask.

I give it 9 out of 10 Grahams
