Guardians of the Galaxy #0.1 (2013)

$4.50
VERY FINE/NEAR MINT
(W) Brian Michael Bendis
(A/CA) Steve McNiven
Move over Avengers…the Guardians got this. Star-Lord. Gamora. Drax. Rocket Raccoon. Groot. …and the Invincible Iron Man?! The Marvel Universe just got bigger as the legendary cosmic epic returns in the hands of superstar creators Brian Michael Bendis (Avengers, All-New X-Men) and Steve McNiven (Civil War; Old Man Logan). In this special prelude issue meet the man behind the Guardians: Star-Lord… and discover how this child of Earth became the leader of the rag-taggiest of teams in all the Galaxy. All setting the stage for next month's historic Guardians of the Galaxy #1. This is the start of something big, Marvel fans.
Date Available: 02/27/2013
BONUS REVIEW by Tim Kopecky

Bless you Steve McNivens I could stare at your lines all day. You are this story saving grace. Here it is, the reboots of the canceled best selling Marvel title of 2009. What a great idea it was. A group of rag tag cosmic heroes banding together to fight against the unknown forces of the universe. Alas this is not that story. The 0.1 issue is an origin story of our fearless leader Starlord. And although it is well told with beautiful art, the story just seems recycled. Single mother, rebellious son, family secrets revealed, blah blah blah so on and so on. Questions Since when is Peter Quill's hair blonde? Does this story take place before the team was actually first formed? Why the hell is Iron Man there? Why? Why? Why? This title could be fun if you forget everything you know.

I give it 5 out of 10 Grahams
