 KONG! of Skull Island is a bit of a prequel to King Kong, a bit of a re-imagining of King Kong, and a really fun cross between Gladiator and Black Panther. Tribes have their protectors, their 'Kong', and the Kongs are made to fight to show what tribe is strongest. Within the tribes, there is honor, duplicity, treachery, and there is superiority. There are also great apes the size of small houses doing monkey business. It's all basically well written by James Asmus, and is beautifully drawn by Carlos Magno. His time on Robocop made a Robocop book worth reading. He's got a tight, realistic style that is comic friendly. He's aided by colorist Brad Simpson. Its nice to see someone computer coloring who can actually throw a solid palette together. I give it 8 out of 10 Grahams VERY FINE/NEAR MINT
