Mars Attacks Popeye #1

Mars Attacks Popeye #1

$6.50
VERY FINE/NEAR MINT
(W) Martin Powell
(A) Terry Beatty
(CA) Ray Dillon
The weekly event of the year starts on the second day of the year! Mars Attacks Martians invade five different IDW timelines and universes this month, starting with their assault on Sweethaven. How can Popeye, Alice the Goon, the Sea Hag the rest of the one-eyed sailor's friends and foes possibly contend with this threat from beyond the stars?
Date Available: 1/02/2013
BONUS REVIEW by Gary Owens

The idea to bring the insidiously evil and butt ugly Mars Attacks populace against the forearms of the world’s most powerful sailor is a masterstroke. With loaded pipe, Popeye must gather forces to face the wanton brutality of an alien force bent on destroying mankind and reducing Olive Oyl to a puddle. Artist Terry Beatty and writer Martin Powell captures the yesteryear feel of Popeye, and it makes one wistful wanting to see that can o’ spinach (always a bit late, ain’t it?) and hear Popeye spout eternal lines like “We gots enemies” and “I yam hoomiliated” on a monthly basis. Not only do you get a great story (with Poopdeck Pappy, no less), there’s incentive covers by J Bone and none other than Bekeley Breathed, featuring Opus from Bloom County. Christmas came a bit late from IDW this year!

I give it 10 out of 10 Grahams
