It's finally here... Six years and almost one thousand pages have all led to this epic finale! With six of Ramona's seven evil exes dispatched, it should be time for Scott Pilgrim to face Gideon Graves, the biggest and baddest of her former beaus. But didn't Ramona take off at the end of Book 5? Shouldn't that let Scott off the hook? Maybe it should, maybe it shouldn't, but one thing is for certain - all of this has been building to Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour!

How often does a story come along that deftly uses video-games and 20 something hipster pop-culture as near perfect analogies for growing up? Don’t answer that, because I’m sure some of you fellow geeks out there will come up with some smart-alecky answers. What sets Scott Pilgrim apart from any other video-game-as-life cartoon or comic though, is that Pilgrim doesn’t win just by collecting enough coins, and he doesn’t “level-up” just by beating the bad guy. He doesn’t get “power ups” until he learns some of the very real and vital life lessons that, well, we all need to learn sooner or later. That’s what makes Scott Pilgrim great: the fact that –as fun and silly as it can be- it takes “real life” seriously. Action lovers need not worry, for this last installment has plenty of it, but luckily, Bryan Lee O’Malley doesn’t gloss over the devastation Scott must feel after losing the love of his life. With Ramona gone, we get to see the funny side of depression, much like in the movie Forgetting Sarah Marshal. We just get to see it Scott Pilgrim style! The panels are wonderfully economized in this volume in a way that lets the reader feel the hilariously depressing time pass without getting bored. There are also more awesome video-game references, but to list them now would give good stuff away. But of course the final, and most evil of the Evil Ex-Boyfriends isn’t gonna let Scott wallow forever. Even before he rears his handsome head, Evil Ex number 7 is able to drive Scott crazy with nothing more than a couple rumors. The final battle takes up a large portion of the book, and like any good boss battle, doesn’t end in just one round. That’s all I’m going to say about the plot, but rest assured, this 6th volume is a fitting end to the series. What’s more, it has made me even more excited to see the movie. There were one or two scenes that were so touching, that I couldn’t help but imagine what soundtrack songs would go great with them. So if you like Rock and Roll, sword fights, video games, and maybe even want to learn some lessons in life and love, get some Scott Pilgrim. It proves that all of these things when put together, only make life better. Seriously.
