"October brings Melancholy." and thus fan favorite and wonderful backup character The Shade returns to us bringing with him Mikaal, the blue alien Starman and lovely Hope O'Dare. The Shade's outlook hasn't changed a bit since his wonderful Robinson Starman days and I admit, I've missed his world weary observations of current day society and his wonderful name-dropping. Plus, I identify with his one need in life. When the world has started to dim that twinkle in his eye, a loved one looks to him and simply say, "You need an adventure." And an adventure seems to be sneaking up on our friend even if he doesn't realise it. Cully Hamner's artwork is highly appropriate for the book and James Robinson obviously still loves writing the character. Since it is unlabled, I don't have to worry if it's part of the New 52 universe and we are being given a lengthy 12 issues to savor.
