This issue is a Skullkicking short story smorgasbord by top-flight comic talent BRIAN CLEVINGER (Atomic Robo), RAY FAWKES (Possessions), CHRIS SIMS (The Invincible Super Blog), ADAM WARREN (Empowered), CHAMBA (Street Fighter), SCOTT HEPBURN (Star Wars), JOE VRIENS (Darkstalkers) and JIM ZUBKAVICH (Oh yeah, an actual SKULLKICKERS guy) Date Available: 02/23/2011 BONUS REVIEW by GARY OWENS SkullKickers, from Image, is about 2 fantasy warriors on the pay; out for some ale, some battles, and finding a good tavern to enjoy. For this issue, an array of varying artists and writers came in to tell 4 short adventures about these two guys. Amazingly enjoyable, to say the least. Usually, in comics with segments like these, there is a story that doesn’t quite work, but the writers did a great job avoiding each other’s footsteps. The first has a new take on zombies; the second, a nice tavern retelling of a long ago adventure (I think); the third, another new take on zombies (in a world of too many zombie stories, both of these, amazingly, were refreshing); and the last, in the midst of a battle, gives you more info about a sword vs. an axe than you may have cared to know. A fun, fun issue. 9 out of 10 Grahams VERY FINE/NEAR MINT
