BONUS REVIEW by Gary Owens

Planet of the Apes meets Superheroes-in-training...sort of. Young Justice is one of the latest in the animated series from DC, and it seems a partial throwback to the shows like the Batman Animated Series, and even Teen Titans from past decades. This issue has YJ going against The Brain and Grodd, and touches on the series themes of gaining independence from elders , with its pitfalls, and what does doing-your-own-thing mean (read: what is "growing up"?). To me, this is old school, and its about time. The issue begins with a dragging 2-page info dump on what-has-gone-before, and then reflects on relationship issues, though touches them only superficially. The action itself is fierce, however, and it has a great cliffhanger ending. My son loves the animated stuff, and he loves watching this one on Cartoon Network. DC is getting back on track in animation, and this issue continues the fine work.
