Mermaid in a mech-suit. Need I say more? Ok, I will say more, this book was fantastic! The Last Mermaid follows the story of a mermaid in a water-filled transforming mech-suit, wandering a desert wasteland in search of water to refresh her suit and save her adorable axolotl companion. The art is wonderful, with the broad and sweeping landscapes adding to the world building. I’m not usually a fan of magazine size books, but this format seems justified for this style. The larger format gives the art room to breathe, and adds to the feeling of emptiness in a barren wasteland. My only gripe is that it wasn’t longer, but that’s what issue two’s are for.

I give it 9 out of 10 Grahams
