VERY FINE/NEAR MINT
(W/A/CA) Walter Simonson
With his dead child behind him, and a thousand burning demons before, the Black Elf assassin, Regn, fights furiously alongside Thor, so that after the battle, he and he alone can kill the God of Thunder.
Date Available: 03/30/2016
BONUS REVIEW by Kevin Healy

This book has many of the tropes of big budget fantasy action- immeasurable armies, magical weapons, vistas and landscapes from the depths of hell- but it has something important that is often lacking: Purpose, a sense of direction, clearly drawn characters, and the weight of consequence both in success and in failure.

That's all a bit haughty taughty. Let's make it simpler: This book is about Thor. (Yes, they can do that.) Thor killed a guy's kid. That guy wants revenge. While revenging, they're overrun by an army sent to kill them both. The enemy of my enemy is only my friend for so long, and things may not turn out so well for Thor.

Walter Simonson is a genuine master comic storyteller. His art is always great to show how to move someone's eye across a comic page (it's a skill not everyone drawing comics has), but this issue has a bonus eight pages of pencils and inked pages to take the reader through that process as well. This is the book of the week.

I give it 9 out of 10 Grahams
