Throw together a locked room mystery, a Maybe machine, Grant Morrison, and a dozen or more artists and you get the milestone issue of Batman #700. A long-time coming, without a doubt. Usually these issues allow the writer to stretch his legs, giving him some room to do something nifty and classic, which is what I like. Morrison doesn’t disappoint, though I lost some understanding of the story as it jumped scenes and time periods. But the pencils made up for it, and the way the story flowed into the art gallery, at the end, was a clever first. Great buy, and milestone comics like this tend to hold their value well, over time. Consider it a collector’s item, and a great read, too.
