BONUS REVIEW by GARY OWENS

Fans of Iron Fist should recognize this comic’s star: Fat Cobra, a denizen of one of the seven capitals of Heaven. The story is simple; Fat Cobra has been around, has spent too many years with the wine and the women, and wants to recall his past. So a paid writer/detective tells it to him, in spades. I love one-shot character studies, when the character’s past is an empty shell; it let’s the writer demonstrate his chops. And writer Jason Aaron bangs it out, HUGE, showing the humor, tragedy, and power behind the character. Having visited China, I found the subtle poses and expressions of Cobra, by the various artists, hit it dead-on. Fantastic work, all around. Yet an item I didn’t like were the Chinese written characters: the one on the cover, under his name (and tattooed on his shoulder) means “turtle”, or “coward”, I’m told from a native Chinese mainlander. Does it fit, as a tattoo? Read the comic and decide…I’m still rereading it.

I give it 10 out of 10 Grahams
