As mankind’s enemies cut a swath of destruction with unprecedented ferocity and ruthlessness, the fate of the planet rests in the hands of one person: Toby, a 13-year-old boy who holds the key to uniting his comic-book idols, the Marvel Heroes! Superstars Mark Millar (CIVIL WAR, FANTASTIC FOUR) and Tommy Lee Edwards (BULLET POINTS, The Question) deliver a Marvel Event the likes of which you’ve never seen!

REVIEW by Brian Fisher

Having been born in 1980 I really didn't get into comics until the late '80s and early '90s so the nostalgia of this series, focusing exclusively on the mid-80s was kind of lost on me. But the wonder of a child discovering comics wasn't, recalling my own childhood discovering this entirely different world to escape to. But what if you found that this fantasy world wasn't just on the page but within the world around you? What an exciting and terrifying prospect. And that's the whole basis of "1985." As a comic, though something is lost from that feeling. Mark Millar has somehow sapped the life out of this feeling of excitement, and Tommy Lee Edwards' art doesn't help much either. While trying to convey "realism" his artwork feels stiff and posed. Edwards' linework is over-heavy and ends up muddying the picture. There are strokes of brilliance here, though and a potential I hope doesn't go to waste in the rest of the series.

I give it 6 out of 10 Grahams
