MY FIRST COMIC by Jeff Cesare
I don't exactly remember the 1st comic book I read because when I was a kid, in the 70's, I read DC comics. I have vague memories of Batman, Superman, and the Justice League. They didn't leave a lasting impression on me.

When I moved from Lisle to Naperville, I gave all my comics away to the neighbors kids (big mistake). At Jefferson Jr. High I had to sell magazine subscriptions for a fund raiser. I bought 2 subscriptions: Captain America and G.I. Joe. The first issue I read was G.I. Joe # 21 "The Silent Issue". The story was about Snake-Eyes infiltrating the Cobra head quarters to rescue Scarlett from Storm Shadow. There was no dialogue, no narration, no words at all. It was all action. Ninjas, sword fighting, great art, and it blew me away (I was 12 at the time, but it still a great issue to read today). After I read it I had to get issues 1-20. That issue excited me so much I had to read them all. So my parents took me to the first Graham Crackers Comics location on Washington street (it's now called Flat Top Grill), and I bought them all. I spent the rest of the weekend reading them, and I got hooked. Since that fateful day I've been reading and collecting comics (I have a vast collection). It's a hard habit to break. I even work at the Plainfield store in the warehouse doing a variety of jobs. I love reading comic books, seeing the movies, collecting Bowen Designs statues, and wearing the T-shirts. It's my escape from the real world, my problems, and I enjoy it. I'll continue to read comics and see the movies till the Mayan end of the world..oh wait that already happened.
