Elzie Crisler Segar's beloved Thimble Theatre returns to us thanks to the kind folks at IDW. Now, I know you are saying to yourselves, no sorry that's Popeye. But you're wrong. Sure Popeye is the title of the book but the contents are pure Thimble Theatre! (For those of you born after the turn of the century, Popeye made his first appearance in the already 10 year old strip Thimble Theatre in 1929.) Sure most post baby boomers know Popeye, sailor, eats spinach, dadadadada...pow! But Popeye was just one of the many inhabitants of Thimble Theatre. Popeye simply took center stage and put the rest of the gang in orbit around him. Oh sure, all your favorites are here, Olive, Whimpey, Bluto but we also run into Eugene the Jeep and the Sea Hag. And for those of us old enough, we get Olive's parents and brother Castor! And how about Bluto's henchman (Yes! Henchman!) Glurk! There is no spinach. There is no deadheaded...pow. But there is an adventure and fun and excitement. And really, that's all that matters! Family Reading Fun!
