This is a surprising book a couple of reasons. First, its a good Robocop comic. I've seen the set up before-it takes place after the original movie, the sequels never happened, yadda yadda. There's been at least 3 good first issues in that model followed by something sad and tragic that by the time you're done reading issue #2, you drop the book because its just terrible, and you hate yourself because you fell for it again, and how many times are you going to get suckered by this same trope, Kevin??!?! How many? One more, now that Boom has the license?

Yes, one more, me, with a caveat: Don't jinx it by saying anything about the first one, so no one blames you when the second one is waste. But what if? What if the second one is good too? Here we are, and it is, and I don't know what to do next because this has never happened before. There's still crime in old Detroit, or as we call it now, Detroit. OCP, Robocop and the Detroit police dept. want there to be less crime, or better yet, no crime. Sounds simple, right? It is(n't), as we find out in this commentary on how America deals with its gun problems.

The other great surprise of this book is the art by Carlos Magno. Detailed, realistic w/out being confined to photo reference, action filled, but w/ some nuance. It's a great feel for this character and the character of Detroit. Think Alex Maleev inked by Jose Juan Ryp and you'll get the idea. Better yet, pick up the book and look for yourself. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I give it 7 out of 10 Grahams
