T7 #0 is the sole DC Zero Month title aiming to launch a new monthly ongoing team book, and it assembles the team...err... satisfactorily. Unfortunately, setup is the sum of what this issue does. Full disclosure: my motivation for snagging T7 #0 was largely to pick up the heat coming off of Jordan's first major effort for Image Comics, the bold and brilliant "The Strange Talent of Luthor Strode". I wish this origin story had the same creative zest, but instead the characters are indistinctive, the plotting and script are unengaging, and the feeling that pieces are perfunctorily being put into place reads through every page.

I see promise in one character, James Bronson, who appears to be the symbol of raw human potential in the group. I can imagine the inherent opportunity in having him face off with DC's heaviest of heavies in a future story line. There is an underwater standoff that is amusing, sure. But, once you glance the cliche splash page straight out of the XTREME '90s era (so many pouches!) it is apparent this assignment did not get Jordan's creative coals a-sparkin'.

I give it 4 out of 10 Grahams
