VERY FINE/NEAR MINT
(W/A/CA) Michael Dialynas
Trapped inside her mountain by pollution-spewing factories, the guardian spirit Zawa only has industrial waste to eat, leading her to a bitter existence of paranoia and destruction. But when two siblings from a nearby village help her escape, they'll quickly learn that the way to calming Zawa's heart is through a well nourished stomach! GLAAD Award-winning and Eisner Award-nominated cartoonist Michael Dialynas (Wynd, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) crafts a charmingly macabre eco-fable about nature, greed, the dangers of retribution, and good food shared among friends.

BONUS REVIEW by Luke Simkins

Wynd by James Tynion IV and Michael Dialynas was my first introduction to the fantastical art of Dialynas, and I was so excited when I heard he was going to do his own series! Zawa is set in a world where food is a strictly monitored commodity, controlled by the Mayor and produced by his mysterious factory. The main character, Bandit, is an aspiring cook and struggles to find quality ingredients for his recipes. With the help of his sister Thatcher, and their friend Leo, they sneak into the mayor’s factory during the Divine Feast to try and find the fresh food the mayor has been hiding away. Bandit finds a pantry full to the brim, but has to escape through the garbage disposal when guards find him snooping about. Amongst the garbage, Bandit discovers that the mysterious rumors of a monster called the “Gobble-Geist” are true, but maybe this isn’t a monster? Could this be the last guardian of the mountain, and could they help restore balance to the city? For fans of fantastical dystopias like Wynd, beautiful art like Twig, or just someone looking for something new!
