Donny Cates is an overindulgent so and so who says he knows he's not a good writer but has an interesting body of work that suggests he's wrong. He does seem to hate the status quo of whatever he's working on, and is looking to tell a big story outside the norm. He has his successes- Thanos, his first two arcs on Thor, and more. He has his failures- the current arc on Thor is dreadful. Whatever your take on him, he's got big ideas.
Making yourself one of the most powerful people in the world (in story) is not a new conceit. We've seen that done well too, by Wes Craven (Wes Craven's New Nightmare), and poorly, by M. Night Shyamalan (Lady In The Water). Cates has been presenting himself as an Alan, moore or less in the book until this issue. He moves into full on **** **** and

I'm not gonna say.
Instead, I'll tell you that the first 10 pages are Negan at Robert Kirkman's house. Yes, that Negan. I'll also tell you we find out that Cates is writing parts of this story, but not all of it, that word balloons are pointy, and that this books is one of his great ones.
