**HUGE SPOILERS**
I decided NOT to read Flashpoint first, just to see if you can jump into it with zero knowledge about the who's and whys. The conclusion to this query: JUMP IN!! So let's dive in to some spoilers:
Johns and Lee bring you a fun rebirth of our heroes… on the run! The most interesting part of this relaunch: our heroes are being hunted by authorities! (very x-men style, I might add) Apparently the heroes of our universe are a new commodity, a fresh bold approach! Batman and Green Lantern, always a fun team-up! Get a glimpse of Vic, and then a glimpse of Superman, and…that's it. Fun, but I was really hoping for more. It was just an issue of introductions. There were some great moments: Batman calling Green Lanterns ring a flashlight; Batman removing Hal's ring, FANTASTIC!
With this new beginning, we have heroes who aren't weighed down by their history. I get why DC wanted this. BUT – dedicated fans who were told that their histories were seemingly intact might feel betrayed at this egotistical bunch of super-powered strangers. Growth, depth, these are things I love about the DCU. Now we have a new venue for development and change, and I hope to see these heroes grow back into the idols they were before the relaunch.
And though I'm excited to be reading some new DC stories, the cost of losing so much beloved history is starting to irk me. Give me good stories, and I will forgive… till next week!
