It's a very special episode, I mean issue, of Magento this month, and I feel its a step back from the quality of the previous two issues. Having something larger at play is important. It's been present in this series. Writer Cullen Bunn either doesn't trust that 'the get' he's presenting would be enough to merit its own issue, or that 'the stuff that gets us to the get' would stand on its own to be a full story. That weakens both aspects. If we care about the character, we don't NEED an extra reason to go along this murderous journey. If we care about the real world events it takes inspiration from, you have to question if equating 'the get' to something like 9/11 or the Vietnam Memorial trivializes them in some regard. I'd argue its not intended to, but still does a bit. I will say that I'd prefer big ideas that don't work to small ideas or a lack of ideas, and I'll look forward to better from this title next month.
