Continuing the look and feel of the series pre-Secret Wars, this title offers the same fun vibe, an achievement considering the generally staid demeanor of the title character. The book is written by Dan Slott, who wisely gives the Surfer a traveling companion named Dawn, allowing the Surfer to fill the role of shiny straight man, unflinchingly serious even while surrounded by the candy colored whimsy of Mike Allreds art.
