Without the return of Alan Moore, I wasn't all that pumped about a Swamp Thing reboot. But Scott Snyder understands why we enjoyed Moore's run, what we love about the character, and brings that all together in this first issue.
It's a new era: Holland isn't Swamp Thing anymore, or at least doesn't think he is. Back from the dead, this issue mirrored early stories, this time with Holland in the foreground, trying to find a foothold on who he is. This story involved plenty of creepy twists, with fantastic paneling by Paquette. It will be fun to see how they tie this into the past, but it's all about the future, and I'm glad DC found a way to incorporate this loved character into the new 52!
