REVENGE OF THE SPIDER-SLAYER Part 2 of 3
'All You Love Will Die' The SPIDER-SLAYER'S assault escalates as his INSECT ARMY descends on Manhattan! No one in Spidey's life is safe-from the offices of the Daily Bugle to the Mayor's staff at City Hall! It's way more than our wall-crawler can handle. Good thing he's also a member of the NEW AVENGERS! Guest-starring LUKE CAGE, JESSICA JONES, MS. MARVEL, MOCKINGBIRD, IRON FIST… and a few surprises.

So I’ve been slacking on my Spidey reading, but have been keeping up with New Avengers which at least boasts ole’ Web-Head as a member. So when I noticed issue ASM #653 featured a crisis big enough to bring the Avengers into a Spidey-book, I had to check it out. I’m really glad I did! This issue has everything. The action is fast paced, the banter is witty, and the villains are making life really difficult for J. Jonah Jameson, which is always a good thing. Even though there are hoards of new villains, more than one classic villain we know and love are given pretty sweet spotlights. Furthermore, with the New Avengers coming to Spidey’s rescue and Aunt May once again in trouble, there is so much going on that any lesser writer would let the story get muddied and chaotic. This always requires some level of Deus Ex Machina to suddenly clean it up in the end. But the way this book is handled, even the lesser soldiers of the Spider Slayer have histories built in, making their attacks actually significant. I’m glad to be enjoying Amazing Spiderman once again.
