STARBRAND REBORN Part Three: THE RISE OF THE WAR WIDOW: The battle for the Starbrand heats up like a supernova, as Captain Marvel goes toe to toe with Firelord, Ghost Rider races the Silver Surfer and Brood Thorà tries to eat the Avengers. Meanwhile the Black Widow kicks much butt in outer space with a bold new weapon in her arsenal. That's right, the Black Widow + the War Machine armor = the all-new, all-deadly War Widow.

Uhm yeah. This is a book I read. The names on the cover and title page tell me Jason Aaron wrote it and Ed McGuinness drew it. There is enough of Ed in the artwork that I believe he is at least providing pencil layouts. There is a super cool scene with Blade, Man-Thing and Silver Surfer, that needs to seen to be believed. It is so good I almost believe Jason wrote it that way. The rest of the issue, much like most issues in this run, seem to use a semblance of the old "Marvel Style". It reads and feels like the artist said, "I wanna draw a War Machine version of Black Widow and Thor as a Brood" make me a story where that happens please. Jason responds with a really? Artist responds with "yeah my kids and I played it out last night with toys. It was great!" And Jason says, "I'm busy writing Thor, Sea of Stars, Conan, and waiting for Jason Latour to be free so I can finish Southern Bastards over here... Go ahead and draw something "fun" and I'll put in some dialogue and a loose plot after watching this amazing wrestling match and finishing this here beer." Either or that this is written for Marvel Action Avengers and the scripts get switched by IDW and Marvel every month... The worst part is that when the book is good it's great (see Blade & Man-thing team-up) so I keep coming back hoping I get more good than bad (see any thing with new Ghost Rider). This issue is mostly not good or bad, just a thing I read.

I give it 5 out of 10 Grahams
