BONUS REVIEW by Kirk Jackson
For the first time, an early ‘90’s Image title has been re-launched without being completely re-imagined. While some might consider this course to be il-advised, I certainly think it raises the level of difficulty in making the book successful. With that in mind, I believe Tim Seeley deserves some pretty high praise. The history of Bloodstryke, and it’s main leader, Cabbot Stone, appears to be intact. This includes it’s ties to other Liefeld properties of the time such as Youngblood and Brigade. “So why don’t I stop reading this review right now?” you ask. Because Seeley and Gaston actually take this title, give it decent art, real character development, and cool monsters to fight. They even manage to explain why Cabot is so angry all the time rather than just having grit his teeth and shoot stuff all the time.
This does not mean anyone deserves an Eisner, but I do think making this book enjoyable, while staying pretty close to the original concept, is quite an accomplishment all its own.
