The Avengers book that I am most sorry to see disappear to make way for the new “Age of Heroes” is oddly the most villainous of them. Dark Avenger’s has been an incredible book from it’s inception 15 months ago, and it’s 16th and final month is no different. (In fact I’m surprised such a successful title for Marvel is getting the axe even if it does make sense for the story) Deodato’s art continues to be gritty and realistic, keeping the noir feel that a “Dark” book works to well with without losing any of the excitement. Bendis gives us an excellent look into the minds our favorite villains as they deal with the aftermath of one of the most brutal battles in Marvel history. He also pays excellent homage to the team’s fallen warrior-god through the mouth of Thor, perhaps the greatest warrior-god of all. Out of all the final Siege tie-ins, this last issue of Dark Avengers is the one that felt most real, and therefore most satisfying.
I give it 9 out of 10 Grahams
