Third Print

It all begins here. Do not skip to the last page. Do not let a friend or message board ruin this comic for you. The future (and past) of the DC Universe starts here. Don't say we didn't warn you! THEY SAID IT: 'Rebirth is about focusing in on the core of the character and their respective universe,' says writer and DC Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns. 'It brings back what has been lost, the legacy of the characters, the love and the hope of the DCU!'

Something has been missing from DC's comics. They're aware of that. Geoff Johns is looking to personally return it to the New 52 with Rebirth. There's soooo much I'd love to say, but this really is something you have to read for yourself, because I can't imagine anyone not having a visceral reaction to it. Have no doubt, there are people who are going to hate this...Alan Moore level hate this, swear off DC for all time. I'm very much not one of them.

Here's what I can tell you. A character you haven't seen in a while takes us on a tour of the current DC universe roster and tells us character by character what's missing, and that there's a reason its been missing. It's like Dorothy trying to go through OZ without companions, and the companions not knowing who she is when she finds them. I can specifically say that this will give you the information Batman got about that crime comedian he interacts with so often while in the Mobius Chair during the most recent Justice League story.

This is done like an old Johns book (or new one if you've been reading Justice League)...with a ton of heart. (Have you ever read his original Flash run?? THAT Geoff Johns.)

At that point, you're going to have the rug well and truly pulled out from underneath you. Let it mess with your head that Johns has apparently been working this into books for over two years now. Watch how much the other men and women of comics flip out over this and compare YOUR reaction for fun and prizes. You could be David Bowie looking for life on Mars and you still wouldn't have seen this coming.

I'm not a DC guy. I have no ties to this character beyond enjoying a good story. (They've been in a bunch of them.) I have no reason to care about them, but if you're like me, you may just find yourself full on rooting for them to succeed. At that point, this character becomes the avatar for DC Comics in general. I discussed this at length with another one of our reviewers, and we were pleasantly surprised to be on the exact same page about this. We're also realllly hoping that there's a much meat on these bones as we're reading there to be. I'd hate to be the one looking at a rorschach blotter card, see something awesome, and be told it was just spilled ink and we haven't started the test yet.
