When I played D&D long ago, I know I didn’t have adventures like this one. I admit I didn’t expect the comic to follow the average man-on-the-street campaigns that are set up in homes and cottages across the land, but I guess I did expect some hard-core fantasy in the mix. We do get a touch of that; elves, dwarves, Cyclops, and more, all battling it out in a high-stakes war…but it read more of a we-must-save-the-world type comic, rather than a how-can-we-get-rich (or simply live for tomorrow), which is more of my experience in heavy-duty D&D campaigns. Save-the-world stories can be short on character development, since all of the focus is on, well…saving the world, and that’s my experience here. No heavy dialogue, which is good, and the story is well-structured, but, really, I got to be honest: I would like something a less universe-spanning. Granted, this comic is still getting off its feet; maybe those stories I long to see are in the cards, soon.
