Fantastic Four Anniversary Tribute #1

$6.99
VERY FINE/NEAR MINT
(W) Stan Lee, Jack Kirby
(A) Aco, More
(CA) Steve McNiven
Sixty years ago, Stan Lee and Jack Kirby made history and brought about the beginning of the Marvel Age of comics with the release of FANTASTIC FOUR #1. Now a bevy of Marvel's finest creators pay tribute to that monumental moment by reinterpreting, page by page, the story from that inaugural release as well as FANTASTIC FOUR ANNUAL #3, in which the entirety of the Marvel Universe attended the wedding of Reed Richards and Sue Storm! Whether these are stories you've never read before or tales that you're intimately familiar with, this is the perfect way to experience them anew! ONE-SHOT
Date Available: 11/03/2021
BONUS REVIEW by Kevin Healy

Enjoy a $7.00 mixed bag of wonders!
Thrill to Stan Lee's awkward first issue dialogue paired with modern artists who'd flip their wig if someone gave them a script like this!
Revel in pages by modern masters!
Cringe at artwork by venerated masters of the form who announce themselves as completely past their prime if they're willing to submit these for payment!
Swim in word selections that make even Ben seem like an Ivy League professor at times!
Giggle incessantly as Reed Richards flat out MURDERS a three headed monster and then gloats about it!

So, this is all written with love. Stan and Jack were a perfect pairing on this title, and a lot of the art here will only reinforce that. The four are much closer to what you remember by the time you get to the second story here. The depressing moments (Neal Adams...whoof, just terrible) and JRJR (who can't keep the Thing's rock pattern consistent for TWO PANELS) don't diminish the fun being had by most participants in this little experiment. It is a little pricey, but you do get two full issues.
Recommendish, if not recommended.

I give it 7 out of 10 Grahams
