I hate discovering a new title one issue before it ends but that is extactly what happened with Gotham City Monsters #5. The only real reason why I scooped this up was Howard Porter and Hi-Fi's excellent take on the Universal Studios Monsters. But I was enchanted to discover that these characters were much more than that. In an appearance that only lasted a few panels back in Superman #276 (1974) when the Monster Society of Evil made (as far as I know) their only appearance as the villians of a suspicious looking alternate earth hero named Captain Thunder (Can you say Shazam!). Having them popping out of the Multiverse again just serves as a reminder how great the history of the DC Universe really is! Add in the dialog between Batwoman, Killer Croc, and Orca and this one will have me hunting out issues 1-4!

I give it 9 out of 10 Grahams
