Hey Kids Comics #1

$3.99
VERY FINE/NEAR MINT
(W) Howard Victor Chaykin
(A/CA) Don Cameron
SERIES PREMIERE! HEY KIDS! COMICS! takes its cue from nearly a century of turbulence and triumph, despair and drama in the comic book racket. Artists and writers, con men and clowns, ganefs and gangsters, create the foundations of today's biggest entertainment business-or at least the tail that wags the dog. Some of it really happened, and the names have been changed to protect the innocent and guilty... although in the end, everyone was guilty of something.
Date Available: 08/08/2018
BONUS REVIEW by "Doc" Schaefer

A new Howard Chaykin book with a mocking comic fn photo cover, of course I'm interested (check out the one button the fan is wearing - classic!) And the story here is both a dream and a nightmare of us older comic fans who remember the glory days when the idea of having a letter printed in a comic (or be still my beating heart) a tour of the offices of any of the comic producers of the day was the be all end all of life as we knew it. Only to discover that behind the scenes, the Bullpen family we admired and so desperately wanted to join was a very dyslexic family at best. As the story bounces back and forth through the years, it really puts the lives of these "fictional" comic professionals into perspective. This one actually brought a little tear to my eye as it brought me back to a time when we all thought to ourselves "If Shooter could do it, so could I."

I give it 10 out of 10 Grahams
