What If? One of these New X-Centric books had a sense of humor and was well, a wee bit eccentric? I get the whole mutants are the new gods thing, but it's nice to see something amusing happen without the overtones of a full blown Matrix-style key party on top of a volcano. Part of the fun with this title is that the characters seem like...them, and not some slightly off versions of themselves. With art that slavishly recalls the best of any New Mutants runs, this title is like it's own little island in the midst of the sturm and drang of the rest of the line. Highly recommended for those old enough to remember trying to convince anyone that super hero comics could be "art" back in the day, those who appreciate a whimsical word balloon an a cover, and anyone who thinks that putting the word space in front of another word instantly makes it space-funny.

I give it 9 out of 10 Grahams
