$4.99
VERY FINE/NEAR MINT
(W) Margaret Atwood
(A/CA) Ken Steacy
From the Booker Prize-winning author of The Handmaid's Tale, comes this historical fiction graphic novel tracing the Golden Age of comic books. Al Zurakowski is living his dream to be a cartoonist, working on his own creation Oursonette, but the demands of his publisher is starting to take a toll. Add tough news regarding his brother fighting the war in Europe, and the weight of the world is proving difficult for Al. That said, his real life struggles prove to translate well to fuel his creative endeavors.
Date Available: 10/03/2018
BONUS REVIEW by "Doc" Schaefer

This title holds up after a magnificent start. Margaret Atwood's story is a spot-on representation of the Golden Age of the world of comics. The especially depressing cliffhanger is an amazing reminder of how the earlier days of comics were not all that steady or secure. Our hero has quickly discovered that the life of the comic artist may not be worth it. With snippets of Al's actual Oursonette comic, this is a touching look back.

I give it 9 out of 10 Grahams
