It all comes down to this: revenge. It’s payback time, as fledgling vampire Pearl Jones finally confronts the vicious Hollywood coven that left her for dead, and Will Bunting reveals the final, shocking chapter in the saga of James Book and his deadliest adversary, American vampire Skinner Sweet. Be there for the unforgettable, double conclusion to the first arc of AMERICAN VAMPIRE.

BONUS REVIEW by KIRK JACKSON

This book does with a Stephen King story what Hollywood could never do: bring out the humanity inherent in any good monster book. Hero Vampires, if nothing else, are plagued by a dual nature. They strive to keep hold of their humanity while dealing with their hyper-natural predatory need for blood. This book frames that struggle simply by containing two dueling stories. By spreading out both writers’ arcs over the 5 issues, one can see the dual nature of the central “American Vampire”, Skinner Sweet, in each issue. King’s story presents Sweet in his first primal days as a blood sucker, when survival sprinkled with a little bit of revenge dominated his unlife. Snyder’s story however, presents him as older, more patient, and bit more sympathetic all around. But it is King who wraps up this 5 issue arc most poetically, relating how not all Vampires are created evil, and some can even be true heroes. Snyder is the creator who set this book up, but King knocked it down.
I give it 8 out of 10 Grahams
