Lovecraft’s Cthulhu is once again on display with a new limited series from Boom! Studios. A hallmark of the Cthulhu material is its under-the-surface world of horror, as demons and devils search to crack apart reality to destroy everything. And this issue captures that world very well. Michael Nelson starts the story with a psychiatric inmate, who has suffered and has came out of a catatonic stupor. We learn of the terrifying deaths of his loved ones, while we watch a being named Harlot give a young girl a task. By the end, the pieces start to fall together. The art blends “safe” reality with sinister forces perfectly. Great start to an intriguing series.
