The prelude to “The Blackest Night” begins here!
They come from a place of great anger and hatred. They are
the Red Lanterns and they will have their revenge against the greatest Green Lantern - Sinestro. That is, unless the Guardians have theirs first.

As each new Lantern Corps is revealed the thing I’m finding most intriguing are their differing philosophies. While the Green Lanterns symbolize courage and fearlessness and the Yellow Lanterns represent fear, the Red Lanterns are the embodiment of hatred and vengeance. And they certainly live up to that philosophy. Lead by Atrocitus, the alien creature that killed Abin Sur, the Red Lantern Corps, who expel their energy by vomiting up blood (yeah, scary) have vowed to kill Sinestro before the Green Lantern Corps has their chance to execute him. The story is typical Johns Green Lantern brilliance, balancing just enough back-story and action to be compelling from front to back. The art by Shane Davis is typical to his style as well, only that’s good and bad. Davis, more than any other young artist I can think of regularly reaches levels of brilliance and lows of awfulness in one single issue. He has a lot of potential and, for the most part it shines through here. But there are moments when you spot a panel that makes you wonder if this is the same artist or someone far inferior. But, as I said before he has great potential and a long career ahead of him to achieve it in.
